Interventional Pain Management for Chronic Pain in Western NC
We treat pain for a living; that means that we’ve seen a lot of different types of pain. Take it from us – every day is a reminder that each person’s pain is just as unique as the person experiencing it. That’s why we take a multi-disciplinary approach to helping you manage your pain, which includes a full suite of interventional pain management techniques.
Today we’re going to share a little bit about what we mean by interventional pain management, who would benefit from it and how it works!
What is Interventional Pain Management?
In the world of comprehensive pain management, there are two different types of treatments: interventional and non-interventional. Interventional pain management involves the use of invasive therapy options while non-interventional uses non-invasive techniques.
Interventional pain management is typically reserved for patients who have already exhausted their options within the non-interventional list of treatments and are still struggling to find relief.
Benefits of Interventional Pain Management
It’s important to remember that interventional pain management is typically reserved for chronic pain that has failed to respond to non-interventional therapies. So, while it’s true that interventional pain management is more invasive than other approaches, there are many benefits to this level of treatment. Just to name a few:
Less dependence upon medication
More direct pain relief solution (targeting the cause rather than just treating symptoms)
Long term results
Fewer side effects
Be sure to inform your doctor if you have a history of pain medication addiction before you begin any form of treatment. At The Comprehensive Pain Consultants of the Carolinas, we take care to treat the whole person, not just the pain, ensuring that your care allows you to have the highest possible quality of life.
Types of Interventional Pain Management
Our interventional pain physician team specializes in many different types of interventional pain management techniques. Some of the most common treatments include:
Nerve blocks: injections of localized anesthesia and steroids that are directed in the region of pain—towards a nerve or a group of nerves.
Epidurals & injections: An injection of medication into the surrounding area of damage helps to decrease pain and swelling of the inflamed nerve.
Kyphoplasty: Special cement into your vertebrae in order to restore a damaged vertebra’s height and possibly relieve pain.
Radiofrequency Ablation: a procedure that uses an electrical current to generate heat to destroy the pain fibers to facet joints or sacroiliac joints.
Stimulation implants: Low voltage stimulation of the spinal nerves to block the sensation of pain, helping to better manage your pain and decrease use of pain medication.
These are just a few; to see a complete list of what we offer, please visit the treatments page on our website.
